Target Competition grabs the title

In the fight for the championship, Dutchman Niels Langeveld was 27 points behind championship leader Salvatore Tavano in a Hyundai Elantra TCR. However, with 40 points to be awarded for a race win and 15 points for first place in qualifying, the hopes of Langeveld and therefore also the South Tyrolean team were more than realistic.

Qualifying on Saturday went extremely well for Target Competition and its top driver. Langeveld was able to secure first place on the grid, his opponent Tavano couldn't get past position 1. An exciting race was therefore planned. The second driver in the team, Cesare Brusa, came in 11th place, while guest starter Edoardo Cappello finished qualifying in 2rd place. This with 9 vehicles at the start.

Langeveld achieved another masterpiece in the first race. He got off to a perfect start and was immediately able to create a safe distance between himself and his pursuers. Despite two safety car phases, he always had the race in hand and ultimately won it confidently. Meanwhile, his opponent in the championship, Salvatore Tavano, raced up to fourth place, but missed the final step onto the podium. Tavano blows the fuses After crossing the finish line, an unpleasant incident occurred in which Tavano forced Langeveld off the race track. He was then sentenced to a 10 second penalty by the race management. This dropped him to 14th place and brought Langeveld into first place in the points standings before the second race on Sunday.

Cesare Brusa was out of luck. After just a few minutes he was involved in a mass crash and was eliminated.

In the second race on Sunday, in which Langeveld started from 2th place and Tavano from 8th, the Dutchman got off to a good start again, quickly worked his way into the top field and finished the race in 11rd place. The big bang in the race, however, was the accident in which Tavano was involved and which ultimately forced him to retire. Having previously fallen to 3th place, this ended his already slim chances of winning the title.

Niels Langeveld became champion in the TCR Italy 2022. For Target Competition, this is another milestone in its history and, after the overall victory with Antti Buri in 2021, it is also a successful defense of the title.

Target Competition grabs the title

The South Tyrolean racing team has struck again in the TCR Italy series. In the final two races of the season in Vallelunga near Rome, its driver Niels Langeveld was named overall winner.
