When the defect devil strikes

The start to the race weekend in Zandvoort (NED) was still promising: The Target Competition drivers completed qualifying successfully on Saturday: The Swiss Kris Richard (CH) secured fourth place on the grid, the championship leader, the Serbian Dusan Borkovic Starting position five, and 17-year-old Reece Barr (IRL) followed in sixth place.

Unfortunately, Reece Barr was involved in an accident at the start of the first race on Sunday and his Hyundai i30N was damaged beyond repair. Because of the total loss, Barr was also unable to start the second race on Whit Monday.

As is well known, misfortune rarely comes alone: Due to a defect, the engine of Kris Richard's car had to be changed, and the Swiss driver was therefore given a penalty to the last place on the grid. In the race, Dusan Borkovic was able to maintain his starting position and finish the race in a satisfactory fifth place. Kris Richard, who started the race from 22nd place, started a furious race to catch up and ended up in 14th place.

Breakdown also in the second race In the second race the defect devil struck again. Borkovic, who started from fifth place, was already third when a technical problem forced him into the pits. Although he was back in the race after a short time, any hope of a place in the points was dashed.

Kris Richard, who started from sixth place on the grid, temporarily moved up to third place, but ultimately finished the race in fifth place. The winner of the race was Josh Files (GB), the driver who won the TCR Germany championships in 2016 and 2017 together with Target Competition.

In the championship, Dusan Borkovic continues to lead with 66 points, tied with Mikel Azcona (SP).

The next two races of the TCR Europe Championship will take place from September 9th to 10th. June in Spa (BEL).
