The World Cup decision will only be made at the final

“First we had no luck and then we had some bad luck,” this quote from German football legend Jürgen “Kobra” Wegmann hits the nail on the head. The Audi team Autotest Motorsport got off to a brilliant start in the penultimate round of the FiA World Rally Championship for electric cars on Wednesday, with team boss Josef Unterholzner and co-driver Francesca Olivoni in third place. On the second day of the competition, Guido Guerrini/Emanuele Calchetti were in the second Audi E -Tron on course for the podium, only the World Championship leaders Fuzzy Kofler/Franco Gaioni never found the right track in the south of France. After that, things got tough for the team from Lana; Initially, Unterholzner/Olivoni had to have their car towed without electricity between special stages 3 and 2. At the finish, Guerrini/Calchetti also had to give up their podium place. In the final ranking, for the first time this season, there was no top 2 place for the Audi Team Autotest Motorsport. Guerrini/Calchetti didn't get past 7th place, followed by Kofler/Gaioni in 8th place and Unterholzner/Olivoni only managed 10th place.

Victory went to the French Frédéric Ozon/Marjorie Glatigny, ahead of Artur Prusak/Thierry Benchetrit (POL/FRA) and Frédéric Mlynarczyck/Christophe Marques (FRA/FRA). In the penultimate race of the season, Prusak/Benchetrit narrowly replaced the South Tyrolean duo Kofler/Gaioni at the top of the World Championship rankings for pilots and co-pilots. The world champions will therefore only be crowned at the final. “It’s really exciting, it’s good for the sport. But the title in the brand classification is not enough for me, I want to win all three world championship titles,” says team boss Josef Unterholzner, summing up the starting position before the world championship final.

The separate team classification, which only exists in Monte Carlo, was won by the E-Tense team with Didier Malga/Anne Bonnel, Artur Prusak/Thierry Benchetrit and Frédéric Mlynarczyck/Christophe Marques, while the Audi team Autotest Motorsport came in 5th place.

The 13th and final race of the season will take place on November 16th and 17th in Valencia (Spain).
