A Kalterer in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger

Four and a half years ago something clicked for Artin Mavraj. “I looked at myself in the mirror and always felt too thin and too small. So I started going to the gym,” says the Kalterer, explaining his beginnings. Over time, he got a taste for it, got into it, started eating consciously and soon realized: “The gym alone – that's not enough for me.” So the idea of taking part in competitions arose. A right decision, as it turned out in retrospect.

In mid-June Mavraj took part in a competition for the first time, namely the Italian Championships in Livorno. That means: Artin, who was born in Kosovo and came to Kaltern when he was two, had to score points with various poses in front of a ten-person jury. Sometimes show off your biceps, sometimes reveal your broad back, sometimes flex your chest muscles - and at the end listen to the jury's verdict. And that was more than positive for Mavraj: in his first ever competition, he beat all competitors and won. From nobody to junior world champion As a bonus, a few days later he was also allowed to take part in the NABBA world championship, i.e. the National Amateur Body-Builders' Association. This is one of the most famous bodybuilding organizations in the world, in whose competitions a certain Arnold Schwarzenegger has already taken part and won. At the World Championships, Artin Mavraj showed that he was following in the footsteps of “Arnie” a little bit: he promptly won the junior class. But bodybuilding also means willingness to make sacrifices. “Discipline and will are particularly important here, not to say fundamental,” explains Mavraj. That's why his daily routine is strictly regulated. During the day, the man from Kalter works as a hydraulic engineer and has to eat something at regular intervals. In the evening the specific training follows - sometimes arms, sometimes chest, sometimes shoulders or legs. Of course, Artin has to train even more intensively before a competition. “I’ve been preparing for this for four to five months,” said the Kalter native. “America would be a dream” In any case, he has already been able to reap some of the fruits of his hard work with two titles. However, Artin has not yet made a concrete plan for the future. “I'm going to let everything happen to me now.” Although – one thing would tempt him. “An appearance in America would of course be a dream.”
