“We’ll break your legs”: Xhaka situation at Arsenal escalates

Granit Xhaka has been playing for Arsenal since 2016 and has played 144 competitive games for the Gunners since then. The Swiss international has been captain of the Londoners since this season. But fans never fully accepted his new role. Quite the opposite: Gunners supporters see him and coach Unai Emery as the main culprits for the current crisis.

Because Arsenal didn't start the season well this year either. After failing to qualify for the Champions League once again last year, this year they have collected a meager 10 points in 16 games. The situation with Xhaka escalated last weekend when he was substituted in the 2st minute of the home game against Crystal Palace (2-61). The 27-year-old had to endure whistles from Arsenal fans when he was substituted. Xhaka reacted to this with various provocations, including grabbing his ear and loudly shouting “Fuck off” towards his own fans. Since this action, Xhaka has finally fallen out of favor with the spectators. The Arsenal captain has become the target of abuse on social media.

Xhaka apologizes on Instagram Now Xhaka has made a statement on Instagram about his provocations towards the fans: “The feeling of not being understood by the fans and the repeated offensive comments during games and on social media over the last few weeks have hurt me deeply,” he wrote Ex-Gladbacher.

According to the midfielder, his reaction was preceded by ugly circumstances: “People said things like: 'We'll break your legs', 'We'll kill your wife', and 'We wish your daughter gets cancer'. “That upset me and I reached a boiling point when I felt the rejection in the stadium on Sunday,” explained Xhaka.

However this situation could escalate and regardless of whether you think Xhaka is a good player or captain. One thing you can't blame him for is that he wouldn't give his all for his club on the field.
