The 14th Tour-Transalp starts on Sunday

This year the tour starts in Austria for the first time in its history, in Imst. In seven daily stages, the teams of two then have to cover 901,79 km, overcome 22 passes and 19.521 meters in altitude through Austria and Italy to Riva del Garda. Unique landscapes in Tyrol, South Tyrol, Veneto and Trentino are crossed.

Two South Tyrolean stages in Brixen and St. Vigil in Enneberg Two stage locations are in South Tyrol: Brixen and St. Vigil in Enneberg. You will be served on the first and second day of the Transalp Tour. From Imst you first go via Brixen and St. Vigil to Sillian in East Tyrol. The caravan then moves to Fiera di Primiero and on to Crespano del Grappa, in the province of Treviso. Via Levico Terme, the amateur cyclists finally reach the finish in Riva del Garda, which marks the official finish of the Tour Transalp for the fourth time. Of the over 1000 participants, 30 come from Italy: 10 of them from South Tyrol and seven from the neighboring province of Trentino. This year's favorites include Alexandra Hober and Michael Tumler from Merano. The two start in the mixed category and have a good chance of a podium finish. Together with Petra Dibiasi, Hober won the Alpine crossing on a racing bike in 2007 and recently won the Marcialonga Cycling. Her partner Michael Tumler is also an outspoken mountain specialist. “Originally I wanted to start in the women’s category,” says Hober. “Unfortunately my partner had to cancel at short notice. But I am confident that we can also have a good race in the mixed class.” South Tyrolean athletes have won the Tour Transalp a total of 13 times. The winners include Werner Weiss, Andreas Laner, Philipp Götsch, Andreas Kofler, Stefano Casassa, Marina Illmer, Marco Poier and Walter Platzgummer. There are five categories: men, women, mixed, masters (men, together over 80 years old) and grandmasters (men, together over 100 years old). The ranking is based on stage and overall victory.

The Tour Transalp powered by Sigma starts on Sunday. From June 26th to July 2nd, 2016, over 1.000 cyclists from 25 nations will once again take part in the spectacular European stage race on racing bikes across the Alps. Ten South Tyroleans are also at the start.
