Brixen and St. Vigil stages of the Tour-Transalp

The Schwalbe Tour Transalp powered by Sigma starts on Sunday. From June 29th to July 5th, 2014, around 1.200 cyclists from 22 nations will once again take part in the most spectacular European stage race across the Alps on racing bikes and in teams of two. The Schwalbe Tour Transalp begins in Mittenwald in Bavaria and leads in seven daily stages, 821,90 km, 19.318 meters in altitude and 19 passes through Austria across the Alps to Arco in Trentino. Unique landscapes in Tyrol, South Tyrol, Veneto and Trentino are crossed.

Brixen and St. Vigil are the two South Tyrolean destinations this year

They are served on the second and third days of the Transalp. The route takes seven daily stages, from the start in Mittenwald via Sölden to South Tyrol. Via Brixen and St. Vigil we then go to Trentino to a new stage town, to Fiera di Primiero, and on to Crespano del Grappa, in the province of Treviso. The route then leads via Rovereto to the finish in Arco near Lake Garda.

The absolute highlight this year will be the new route on the fourth stage from St. Vigil to Fiera di Primiero: five passes over 154,74 kilometers and 3.490 meters in altitude have to be mastered here. These include the dreaded Furkel Pass, the Cimabanche and Giau Passes, the Forcella Aurine and the Passo Cereda. The Gobbera and Brocon passes will celebrate their premiere this year on the fifth stage. But the Passo Coe on stage six and the Brentonico, Monte Faé and Passo S. Barbara on stage seven are also new names on the Tour Transalp list. They surprise you with wonderful views - but also sporting demands.

There are five categories: men, women, mixed, masters (men, together over 80 years old) and grandmasters (men, together over 100 years old). The ranking is based on stage and overall victory. The Schwalbe Tour Transalp powered by Sigma took place for the first time in 2003 and is considered one of the most fascinating and difficult racing bike stage races for amateurs in the world.

Brixen and St. Vigil stages of the Tour-Transalp

The 29th Schwalbe Tour Transalp, the crossing of the Alps by racing bike, starts on June 12th. There are two South Tyrolean stages on the program this year: Brixen and St. Vigil in Enneberg.
