The 41st Dolomites cycle tour can begin

The first section is really demanding with a route length of 121 kilometers and 1919 meters in altitude. And it continues in this tone on the following days. Stage 2 measures 145 kilometers and 1560 meters in altitude and takes cyclists from all over the world from Bolzano via Leifers and the Cembra Valley to Aldein and from there to Maria Weißenstein - South Tyrol's famous place of pilgrimage.

In the third section, the pedal riders go to Trentino and Belluno when they have to climb the Passo Valles. “With a distance of 142 kilometers and 2940 meters in altitude, it is certainly the crowning stage of this year’s Giro delle Dolomiti,” beams Simon Kofler, who took over as head of the organizing committee from General Carlo Bosin last year.

Breather on Wednesday

After the rest day on Wednesday, the Dolomites cycling tour continues on Thursday, August 4th with the fourth stage to the Penser Joch (143 km/1968). “After that, the Giro should actually have led to the Fedaia Pass. For administrative reasons we had to change the program at short notice. Now the participants can look forward to three South Tyrolean passes, namely the Karerpass, the Nigerpass and the Panidersattel. This stage is an insider tip - not yet very well known among cyclists from abroad, but Simon Kofler is convinced that they will definitely like it.

This penultimate section of the Giro delle Dolomiti is 133 kilometers long and has an altitude difference of 2482 meters. The cycle tour in the Dolomites will conclude on Saturday, August 5th with the Alpecin time trial on the Wine Route (72 km/253 km). It is one of the innovations at the Giro 2017, just like the modern logo and the newly formed organizing committee.

Top drivers want to be at the front In addition to many good hobby cyclists, numerous top cyclists are also registered for the Giro delle Dolomiti 2017. Former world champion Maurizio Fondriest will also take part in three stages of the cycling tour, as will former cycling professionals Gabriel Corredor and Jörg Ludewig. The German has taken part in the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia with the Saeco team, while the Colombian Corredor won both the Giro delle Dolomiti and the Gran Fondo New York - a stage of the world championship for everyone - in 2014 has.

In the women's category, last year's winner Janine Meyer wants to repeat her triumph, but faces strong competition from Colombia's Camila Cortes. Marina Ilmer cannot be there because she has to sit out due to an injury. The South Tyrolean model cyclists, such as Edi Rizzi, should not be missing from the Dolomites cycle tour.

Personalities from sports and business pedal

Prominent personalities from sports and business will also take part in some stages of the Giro, such as Olympian Aaron March (snowboard), HCB captain Alexander Egger (ice hockey) and Fabio Innocenzi, head of UBS Italia, one of the largest private banks in the world. The South Tyrolean Sporthilfe is also supported, namely with a donated euro per participating driver. The check will be presented to Sporthilfe on Friday, August 4th as part of the award ceremony from 19 p.m. at Waltherplatz.
