The Vuelta a Espana 2017 compact - VIDEO

After the “Giro” and “Tour”, the “Vuelta” is the last of the three major cycling tours during the season. The course of the 72nd edition is typical of the Tour of Spain: nine stages end uphill, while the sprinters can take their chance on five stages. The specialists in the fight against time only come into play once more besides the start, namely on the 16th stage, where there is a 42-kilometer-long, flat individual time trial.

The decision in the fight for the red jersey (overall classification) will probably only come on the penultimate day in the north of the country, when the exhausting Alto de L'Angliru forms the spectacular finale of the 20th stage. This mountain climb has been part of the Vuelta program four times so far and is one of the most difficult on the international racing calendar. Over around 12,5 kilometers it has an average gradient of almost ten percent.
