Giro delle Dolomiti comes to a successful conclusion

For the last time as part of the Giro delle Dolomiti 2021, cyclists from 25 different nations set off from the Bolzano trade fair. This time they went to Bolzano's old town, continued to Frangarto and from there up to Girlan, where the 2 km long Giro Sprint was scheduled. This two kilometer short time trial, which does not count towards the overall ranking, was won by the Spaniard Iraitz Goñi Diaz (4.30 minutes), while in the women's race, once again the overall winner Julia Jederelhauser from Marktoberdorf im Allgäu was unbeatable (5.41).

Via Eppan, Kaltern, Tramin and past Kurtatsch we went to Kurtinig, where the 15,7 km long team time trial began in the late morning. A total of 31 teams with a minimum of four and a maximum of five participants registered. The victory went to the Attutta team, composed of Simone Piccina, Luca Mazzurana, Luca Monterosso, Michele Lisi and Christian Dallago. The quintet completed the route in 19.04 minutes with an average speed of 49,391 kilometers per hour. The time trial provides variety The Berlin+Friends team took second place (Burkhard Vollbracht, David Volkmann, Sebstian Hoff, Jan Annas and Thomas Mai), 57 seconds behind, while the DGD Racing Team (Martijn Veling, Abel Wolterbeek, Moritz Egert, Sebastian Bechtel and Daniel Günzel) came third with a time of 20.15 minutes. The Veloce Club 36.5 with Johan Kolmodin, Frank Scharfscheer, Mario Kummer, Sara Bader and Marco Piccin was the fastest mixed team with a time of 21.30 minutes, while Renate Kaser, Francesca Sassani, Liviana Faoro and Julia Jederelhauser – the “Gnocche a Manetta “ – made up the best women’s team (23.47). The route on which the team crono was held could also be completed alone. Almost 100 participants chose this option. Here, as in the Giro Sprint, Goñi Diaz was the measure of all things, reaching the finish after 21.26 minutes - one second ahead of the two Germans Max Hartwig and Marc Sielhöfer. The fastest woman, Monika Dietl from Freising, also kept up the high pace. She only lost four seconds to Goñi Diaz. The organizers draw a very positive conclusion The overall winners of the 44th Giro delle Dolomiti were already decided on Friday after the last of five mountain time trials from St. Zyprian in Tiers via the Niger Pass to Carezza. In the men's category, Thomas Gschnitzer from Vipiteno won with a total time of 1:39.12 hours, while the German Julia Jederelhauser triumphed in the women's category in 2:02.33 hours.

At the awards ceremony in the early afternoon at the Bolzano trade fair, the participants were enthusiastic about the event, which was carried off smoothly despite the corona pandemic. The organizing committee of the ASD Giro delle Dolomiti was overwhelmed with positive feedback. “We are very happy that this special edition could take place. We are most pleased that the Giro delle Dolomiti took place without any injuries. The positive feedback encourages us to continue on the path we have chosen,” concluded OK President Bettina Ravanelli, who took over the responsible office in late autumn.

The 44th edition of the traditional cycle tour through the Dolomites ended on Saturday. Finally, the team time trial was on the agenda.
