Giro delle Dolomiti: Gschnitzer is in a league of his own in Trentino

Thomas Gschnitzer from Vipiteno left his mark on the time trial from Pinzolo to Madonna di Campiglio and also took the lead in the overall ranking. In the women's category, the German Julia Jederelhauser came out on top. Thomas Gschnitzer literally turned on the turbo during the 8,3 kilometer long mountain time trial with an altitude difference of 456 meters from Pinzolo up to Madonna di Campiglio. With a final time of 24.37 minutes, the 37-year-old from Vipiteno was a whopping 1.11 minutes faster than the Spaniard Iraitz Goñi Diaz. Third-placed Eduard Rizzi (Sarntal), who won the Giro delle Dolomiti in 2019, lost 1.28 minutes to Gschnitzer. Christian Dallago from Bolzano, who won the opener on Sunday, was 90 seconds slower. Francesca Sassani takes the lead in the overall classification A cyclist from Germany also won the women's race on Tuesday. However, it wasn't the favored Monika Dietl from Freising - she ended up in third place - but Julia Jederelhauser, who competes for the St. Vinzenz Klinik Pfronten in Allgäu. The 33-year-old had a time of 30.57 minutes. This made her seven seconds faster than Francesca Sassani from Bolzano. However, Dietl's gap to Jederelhauser was 1.46 minutes. There have also been shifts in the women's overall ranking. So Sassani is now in the front. The 36-year-old has a total time of 59.22 minutes. Giro delle Dolomiti: Gschnitzer is in a league of his own in Trentino

After the weather-related break on Monday, the 44th Giro delle Dolomiti continued with the third section on Tuesday. For the first time in the traditional history of the tour, the participants set off from Mezzolombardo to the Dolomiti del Brenta.
