“Due to the shortness of the time trial, there wasn’t much tactics. All drivers gave full throttle from the start. I am satisfied with my performance. This time trial certainly suited my climbing skills,” said Rizzi, who rated the third section as very demanding for most participants and described it as the queen stage. “Many hobby drivers have certainly pushed themselves to their limits today. After the time trial, we still had to climb the San Pellegrino Pass – a climb that is even more demanding. And all of this in sweltering heat,” analyzed the 46-year-old, who expressly praised the organizers for the very good organization.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Herbert Stuffer (ASV Rodes Gherdeina) from Val Gardena, who finished tenth in 20.26 minutes, and Alois Vigl (Carino Brao Cafè) from Ritten were in good form - he came 20.58th in 14 minutes.

Corredor remains ahead in the overall standings

In the overall ranking, at half of the Dolomites cycling tour, Corredor continues to lead with a total time of 1:31.56 hours, 44 seconds ahead of Philipp Schäddel and 1.27 minutes ahead of Daniel Slobodin. Eduard Rizzi is in fifth place, 4.42 minutes behind.

In the women's race, Camila Cortes underlined her ambitions for overall victory with her third win of the day. The Colombian, who like Corredor drives for the Ristorante Trento team, recorded a time of 22.28 minutes. Barbara Zambotti (MG.K Vis Somec LGL) took second place (23.40), Liliana Sanchez (Giro Dolomiti Friends) was third in 24.31. Ruth Zemmer from Klausen (ASV Rodes Gherdeina) finished eighth as the best South Tyrolean in 27.08 minutes. Ilse Pfeifer from the Zanolini Bike Team also did well, coming eleventh in 27.31 minutes.

Cortes extends lead – rest day on Wednesday

Camila Cortes further extended her lead in the overall classification on Tuesday. The South American needed 1:49.36 hours for the three time trials so far. This would put her in 31st place among men. Barbra Zambotti improved to second place on Tuesday (1:55.33), overtaking Liliana Sanchez (1:56.19). Ruth Zemmer is the best South Tyrolean and takes fifth place (2:08.30).

The third stage was sponsored by former world champion Maurizio Fondriest, Alpecin brand ambassador. He didn't miss the opportunity to ride the section through his home town of Trentino out of competition. After three strenuous days, the Giro delle Dolomiti 2017 takes a break on Wednesday and continues on Thursday with the fourth section on the Penser Joch.
