Giro delle Dolomiti: Second stage firmly in Colombian hands

In the overall standings, Corredor (1:12.46) leads ahead of Schäddel (1:13.30) and Slobodin (1:14.11). Eduard Rizzi is in sixth place overall after two sections (1:17.05).

Cortes is in a league of his own For the women, there was no way past Camila Cortes (Ristorante Trento) on the second stage. The 35-year-old Colombian drove from the Aldeiner Bridge up to Maria Weißenstein in 39.35 minutes and relegated the Italian Barbara Zambotti (MG.K Vis Somec LGL) to second place (40.39). Third place went to Liliana Sanchez (Giro Dolomiti Friends), another Colombian (41.33). As on Sunday, the best local cyclist was Ruth Zemmer from Val Gardena (ASV Rodes Gherdeina), who achieved ninth time (46.43).

Cortes extended her lead in the overall standings and is now 4.40 minutes ahead of her compatriot Sanchez. “I would be very happy if I could win the Giro. Also because I really, really like this race. Today's stage was very difficult, but beautiful, like every stage here. That’s why I can only recommend that everyone take part in the Dolomites cycle tour,” explained Cortes.

With a length of 142 kilometers and an altitude difference of 2940 meters, it is the queen stage of this year's Dolomites cycle tour. As on Monday, it goes from Bolzano south to Auer, up to the Lugano Pass, then on to Cavalese to Predazzo, where the timed section up to the Passo Valles begins (21 km/1037 meters in altitude). The return journey takes place via the San Pellegrino Pass and the Carezza Pass to Bolzano.
