Jakob Dorigoni on podium in the cross-country World Cup

Back in 2016, Dorigoni took second place among the juniors in the cross-country World Cup. At the weekend the knot finally broke in the U2 age group. In Tabor, Czech Republic, he showed an outstanding performance and took second place in the final sprint ahead of Frenchman Antoine Benoist.

A long overdue podium finish, as two weeks ago at the Cross-Country European Championships he was at the top for a long time, but he crashed and ultimately had to settle for 2th place. “Now everything has finally dawned on me,” said Dorigoni happily after the race. After the first lap he was even in the lead. When Thomas Pidkock increased the pace in the third lap, Dorigoni was the only one able to follow the British top favorite. Finally, Pidkock was able to pull away, Dorigoni won the final sprint against Benoist and celebrated second place. The victorious Pidkock was 14 seconds behind.

A success that Dorigoni wants to build on. His big goal is the cross-country world championships in Denmark at the beginning of February. Then he would like to get involved in the fight for the medal positions.

Lechner unlucky Eva Lechner, however, had no luck in the women's elite category. The woman from Eppan started well, but then struggled. An icy section of the route got several cyclists, including the woman from Eppan, into great difficulty. Several falls were the result. Lechner lost a lot of time and reached the finish in 19th place, 1.30 minutes behind the victorious Dutchman Lucinda Brand. The “Azzurra” Alica Maria Arzuffi made it onto the podium in 3rd place.

Jakob Dorigoni from Pfatten celebrated one of his greatest successes to date in the cross-country World Cup at the weekend. In the U23 category he made it onto the podium for the first time in second place.
