Bike Transalp: Geismayr and Pernsteiner with second victory

The two defending champions once again impressed in the long climbs from Brixen to St. Vigil and secured the day's victory in 2:43.18 hours. Their teammates Jochen Käß (GER) and Markus Kaufmann (GER) ensured a double success for the “Centurion Vaude” team, almost two minutes behind. Third place went to the pairing Luis Mejia (COL) and Joseph Chavarria (CRC), who needed 2:46.18 hours for the 62,99 km and 2.688 meters of altitude difference in the Dolomites stage.

By the time they reached the summit of Brixen's local mountain, the Latin Americans and those wearing the yellow jerseys had gained almost a minute's lead over the remaining top teams and had started the descent together. In the following ascent to Würzjoch, Geismayr and Pernsteiner were able to decisively distance themselves from their aggressive colleagues. Hermann Pernsteiner said after the race: “Overall it was a good day for us. We tried to gain a little time at the end." With success, because the two Austrian marathon specialists are already 5.08 minutes ahead of Centurion Vaude 2 (Käß/Kaufmann) before tomorrow's third stage to St. Christina."

Favorites also dominate in other categories Like the wearers of the yellow jerseys, former world champion Massimo Debertolis (ITA) and Dax Jaikel (CRC) from Wilier Force 7C once again prevailed in the Masters classification (3:02.42,2). The South Tyrolean pairing of Thomas Piazza (Gröden) and Viktor Paris (Nals) crossed the finish line in St. Vigil 8.11 minutes behind and thus made it back to second place. The Sunshine Racers Nals are also in the overall ranking of the Masters after two stages 2nd place. They are almost thirteen minutes behind Debertolis/Jaikel in the overall ranking.

In the Grand Masters category, the Swiss Hansjürg Gerber and Daniel Christen were able to successfully fend off the attack of their pursuers Thomas Damm (GER) and Peter Vesel (SLO) and cross the finish line just 8,5 seconds earlier (3:10.43,6).

In the mixed class, Silke Ulrich and Sascha Schwindling were once again first across the finish line (3:12.55,2), while the top favorites Esther Süss (SUI) and Jennie Stenerhag (SWE) from Meerendal CBC triumphed in the women's class (3:45.00,6).

Bike Transalp: Geismayr and Pernsteiner with second victory

The Austrians Daniel Geismayr and Hermann Pernsteiner followed up their success yesterday on the opening stage of the 20th Bike Transalp with a second one on Tuesday. The South Tyrolean pairing Viktor Paris and Thomas Piazza once again achieved second place at the Masters.
