Bike Transalp: Geismayr and Pernsteiner defend their titles

The old and new Transalp champions finished the final stage from Lavarone to Riva del Garda (79,12 km - 2117 m) as the second fastest team (3:08.45), directly behind their German teammates Jochen Käß and Markus Kaufmann (3:08.44). The top four not only secured every stage win, but also finished the 4th edition of the Bike Transalp with first and second place in the overall ranking. Third place today (20:3) as well as in the final result went to the pairing of Jeremiah Bishop (USA) and Kristian Hynek (CZE).

“Our tactics worked perfectly again today. We picked up the pace on the first climb so that we could get a gap between us and our pursuers. It was a great feeling today to be at the front with the whole team," said Pernsteiner.

His colleague Geismayr added: “It's good to confirm with the second title that the first victory last year was no coincidence. That's quite a satisfaction. We have been riding together as a team for three years now and know exactly what we have to do and when. That definitely made us even stronger."

Süss and Stenerhag dominate the women's ranking

In the women's race, Esther Süss (SUI) and Jennie Stenerhag (SWE) celebrated their title just as impressively after remaining unbeaten on the seventh day of racing (4:05.27). The Swiss and her Swedish teammate needed a total of 29:33.43 hours for their third and first Transalp victory.

“It would be nice if there were more and stronger women’s teams at the Transalp because it is definitely possible. However, the climbs here are really long, which puts many people off," concludes Süss.

A statement that was also confirmed by 42-year-old Stenerhag, who has only been her teammate this year: “I have never completed so many climbs. I'm very, very tired, but also very, very happy."

Leaders prevail – South Tyroleans on the podium

In the master class, former world champion Massimo Debertolis (ITA) and the Costa Rican amputee Dax Jaikel secured their overall victory (24:55.06), also with their seventh win in a row in 3:25.06 hours. The South Tyrolean pairing Thomas Plaza (Nals) and Victor Paris (Gröden) from the Sunshine Racers Nals came second in the final stage and also achieved second place in the overall ranking (26:08.14).

In the mixed category, Silke Ulrich (GER) and Sascha Schwindling (GER) not only achieved their sixth daily success (3:38.07), but also their third title after 2014 and 2015 (26:53.08).

In the Grand Masters classification, Thorsten Damm (GER) and Peter Vesel (SLO) underlined with their fourth stage success today (3:41.20) that they rightly wore the green jersey to Lake Garda (26:15.03).
