Ciclocross World Cup: Eva Lechner in the top ten for the third time

A cross-country cycling World Cup race took place in Rome for the third time. For the third time since 2011 (beginning of January and December) the race was dedicated to the legendary Romano Scotti. Romano Scotti was considered one of the most likeable sporting directors in the cycling circus and was widely respected. His son Fausto is now the national cyclocross coach and oversaw the event as head of the organizing committee. As such, he is also responsible for South Tyrol's top athlete Eva Lechner from the Colnago team. In addition to Eva Lechner, he had called up eight other elite riders. Including Vania Rossi, Alice Maria Arzuffi, Valentina Scandolara, Francesca Cauz, Francesca Cucciniello, Elena Valentini, Alessia Bulleri and Nicoletta Bresciani. In the men's category, local hero Marco Aurelio Fontana was gloriously announced alongside the reigning world champion Nils Albert and the World Cup leader Sven Nys. He won the first two editions of the race in Rome in 2011 and took bronze in mountain bike cross country at the Olympics in London.

Overall, the race was quick. The venue was a spectacular circuit in the Cappannelle hippodrome. Located directly on the Via Appia, horse races, concerts and other festivals are often organized there. And Eva Lechner, a horse lover herself, did the venue and her local fans a credit. Behind the winner Marianne Vos from Holland - followed by Katherine Compton from the USA (24 seconds behind) and the Czech Katerina Nash (one minute, eight seconds behind) - the South Tyrolean from Eppan was able to finish ninth after the World Cup races in Roubaix (France). and Namur (Belgium; eighth place) achieved third place in the top ten. Lechner will also take part in this year's World Cross Country Championships from February 2nd to 3rd in Louisville-Kentucky (USA). In 2010 she had already finished fifth in the World Championships in cycle cross in Tabor (Czech Republic).
