The Pustertal is looking forward to the Dolomiti Superbike

This year, the 50-year-olds are setting the tone at the mountain bike marathon with the highest number of participants in Italy. With 250 registrations, those born in 1966 make up the largest group. That's almost 5% of all bikers. 91% of all cyclists come from Italy. This is followed by Germany with 4,3%, Austria with 1,2%, Switzerland and Belgium with 0,7% each. Most participants are from South Tyrol at 10.6%, followed by Rome (5,9%), Padua, Treviso (3,8%) and Bologna (3,3%). The oldest participant is 77 years old, the most experienced lady is 63 years old. Australians, Brazilians, Mexicans and Colombians travel the furthest.

You are probably traveling to South Tyrol because the mountain bike marathon in Alta Pusteria has legendary status. It was founded in 1995 and is therefore one of the oldest and most traditional in Europe. This also explains its great popularity and the increasing number of participants. This year the Dolomiti is also sold out, but registrations were stopped at 5000. The organizers want to guarantee every single biker high-quality personal support and ensure the greatest possible safety. Last year a new record was achieved with 5.500 registrations.

The winner will receive 2.500 euros

The total prize money is €25.000. The winners will each receive €2.500. Awards will be given to the 15 best men and ten best women in the long distance as well as the five fastest women and men in the short distance. The top three winners in all other categories, 17 in total, receive non-cash prizes.

There are also three mountain classifications planned on the long course: on the Plätzwiese at km 15, on the Haunold at km 45 and on the Rotwand at km 60. The sprint classification is only carried out on the short route, namely in the Nordic Arena Toblach at km 37,5, 60. Before that, the winners of the mountain prize of the 200km route on the Plätzwiese will be determined. The winners will receive €XNUMX each.

The previous highlight in over 20 years of Dolomiti Superbike was the hosting of the 2008 UCI Marathon World Championships with a dramatic finale between the Swiss Christoph Sauser and the Belgian Roel Paulissen, who ultimately became world champion. In 2006, 2007 and 2013, the Hochpustertal long-distance race was also part of the UCI Marathon World Cup. In 2004 it snowed at altitude and the event had to be canceled.
