The European champion wants to know it at the Dolomiti Superbike

It has been clear for some time that Fabian Rabensteiner will be at the start of the 27th Dolomiti Superbike in Niederdorf and was not to be expected otherwise. “I don't even know how many times I've been there. It could even be in the double digits. “At first it was always a 60-kilometer race, but now I’ve done it a few times over long distances,” the 31-year-old remembers.

The Villandro mountain biker made a dream come true last weekend with the gold medal at the European Mountain Bike Championships. But he was by no means an outsider in the Czech Republic, after all, he had already won bronze at the continental title fights in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in 2018 and went into the race as the reigning Italian champion.

Fabian Rabensteiner certainly puts his brand new European Champion jersey in a different light in front of the Dolomiti Superbike. He has been one of the extended circle of favorites at the top event for a long time, and the professional is coping well with the pressure of expectations: “Of course, many people have different expectations of me now. But I'm not putting any pressure on myself, I'm just approaching the race as usual. I can handle a little pressure well, it doesn’t bother me much,” reveals Rabensteiner. Strong competition to be expected The local hero doesn't yet know who Fabian Rabensteiner will have to keep an eye on at the Dolomiti Superbike on Saturday, July 9th: “I haven't taken a closer look at the start list yet. But there are always tons of top mountain bikers in Niederdorf. Whether Andreas Seewald or Tiago Ferreira – they are all world class,” the South Tyrolean praises his competitors.

The 31-year-old only has words of praise for the Dolomiti Superbike. “It is the biggest marathon event in Italy, perhaps even in all of Europe. Despite the rush of participants, the organization always runs smoothly. “It’s something very special for me every year to be able to compete in my home race here,” says Rabensteiner happily. The organizers are looking forward to the newly crowned European champions But the organizers around OK boss Kurt Ploner are also proud that they can welcome the new European champions in Niederdorf. “We are of course extremely pleased that we will have Fabian, the newly crowned European marathon champion, at the start. “It further enhances the already extremely strong field of participants in this year’s Dolomiti Superbike,” says OK boss Kurt Ploner.

Rabensteiner will soon begin specific preparation for the 27th edition of the MTB classic. “The European Championship gold has been celebrated in the last few days, but this week I'm taking it easy. But preparations for the Superbike will start next week.” Where Rabensteiner wants to undercut his best result so far at his home race, eighth place from last year. With the self-confidence that he gained from winning the European Championship, he can definitely do that.
