After the recent positive decline in the number of COVID-19 infections in Italy and especially in South Tyrol as well as the official easing of the lockdown, the first government guidelines have been published that are intended to enable a national resumption of the mountain bike racing season. “The Italian Cycling Federation has revised the requirements and is just waiting for confirmation. We will meet all the requirements and can therefore confirm the KronplatzKing 2020 for the time being and continue planning,” explains OC boss Maurizio Kastlunger. The spectacular one-day mountain bike ride will therefore take place as planned on August 30, 2020, marking the start of this year's Italian MTB season. “It was important to us to make a contribution so that the mountain bikers were given something back that was taken away from them by the Corona crisis: a goal, a perspective. That’s why we did everything we could to ensure we could start at the end of August,” said Kastlunger. Two different distances await mountain bike fans as part of the fifth edition of the popular marathon through the South Tyrolean mountains. The “KINGMarathon” covers 73 kilometers and 3.250 meters of altitude in the impressive Dolomites, while the “PRINCEClassic” route covers a length of 49 kilometers and 2.160 meters of altitude. Start takes place in blocks The only difference to the four editions of previous years: The start has to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in order to comply with official requirements. Each starting block is assigned a time interval of 15 minutes so that the individual start can take place in accordance with the distance rules. The time only starts after you have passed through the starting portal. In addition, the organizers are obliged to measure the body temperature of every participant when they enter the area. If this is above 37,5 ºC, the person concerned is not allowed to start. In addition, all registered active participants receive a buff that can be applied over their mouth and nose during the starting phase. This year's starter package also includes a high-quality Odlo shirt.

Since 2016, 800 mountain bikers have stormed from St. Vigil towards Kronplatz every year to secure the coveted title of KronplatzQueen and KronplatzKing. Now there is good news. The event is also scheduled to take place this year.
