The Ortler Bike Marathon is calling

The Ortler Bike Marathon is only 4 years old, but it is already one of the most prestigious mountain bike marathons in Italy. On the one hand, he has his creators to thank for this: Gerald Burger and Co., who also organize the famous Reschenseelauf and the Stelvio Marathon, are experienced when it comes to organizing major sporting events. On the other hand, the Ortler Bike Marathon owes its popularity to the route and the conditions of the upper Vinschgau. Here culture and panorama go hand in hand. No wonder that around 1200 bikers have already registered.

Registrations still possible Numerous bikers are still expected for the race on Saturday. Registrations for 90 euros are possible on site on Friday when the start number is issued (from 14 p.m. to 20 p.m.) and on Saturday morning from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. The athletes can look forward to a lucrative starter package and a unique race. The starting signal for the 8th edition of this prestigious marathon will be given at 4 a.m.

There are 2 routes to choose from; participants must choose one of the two routes when registering. On the marathon route, bikers have to overcome 86 kilometers and 2620 meters of altitude. The Classic route, on the other hand, has 51km and 1600hm. The start and finish are in the Glurns sports zone.

The short route leads from Glurns via Mals, Burgeis and St. Valentin to Dörfl and via Alsack, Planeil, Malettes, Mösl, Matsch, Schlosshof, Lochhof, Churburg and Schluderns back to Glurns. The marathon route goes up to Marienberg, further to Schlinig, Prämajur and to Pfaffensee, to Platzeralm, Bruggeralm and to Greinhof, to Reschensee, to St. Valentin and there via the route already mentioned back to Glurns. A “Just for Fun” race without time pressure is also offered over the short route. Athletes can compete here without a medical certificate. Top-class cast The field of participants is higher-caliber than ever before. In addition to last year's winner and Italian champion Juri Ragnoli and defending champion Esther Süss (Switzerland), many other top bikers will be at the start. Johnny Cattaneo from Bergamo and Daniele Mensi are the Azzurri's best hopes alongside Ragnoli. Strong athletes from abroad have also already registered: among the women, the Austrian Christina Kollmann Forstner, who won gold at the 2017 European Marathon Championships, and Jana Zieschank are among the favorites. Among the men, the Swiss Urs Huber, Hansueli Stauffer and Konny Looser should also be expected. Roel Paulissen, who lives in Antholz, also wants to be at the front. The former Belgian professional won the race in the first two editions and took third place last year.
