The record winner comes back to Niederdorf

Leonardo Paez has won the Dolomiti Superbike four times. The Colombian last triumphed last year. But the 40-year-old hasn't had enough of the marathon classic in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region.

Paez will also tackle the 123 kilometer long route with 3400 meters of altitude on Saturday, July 8th and will of course then want to reach for his fifth triumph.

Until July 9, 2022, Leonardo Paez (2006, 2016, 2021), the Swiss Urs Huber (2008, 2010, 2011) and the Italian Mauro Bettin (2000-2002) shared the title of record winner. On that memorable day, however, Paez took fourth place and since then the biker from Colombia has held the record for individual victories among men alone. In a month and a half, the multiple marathon world champion from South America, who has long since made his home in Italy, will be at the start again in Niederdorf and would like to add another victory to his trophy cabinet.

“We are extremely pleased that Leonardo Paez will be there again. He is a great champion and a more than worthy record winner at our long distance. “We will of course do everything we can in the next few weeks to challenge Paez with a strong field of participants and to once again ensure an exciting and memorable Dolomiti Superbike – just as we have been trying to do for almost three decades,” says an enthusiastic OC President Kurt Ploner.

Increasing number of participants

The signing of a new partner for the Dolomiti Superbike is also indirectly linked to Paez. MTB manufacturer Lee Cougan - that is the bike brand of the Colombian champion - will from now on support the South Tyrolean marathon classic, which was held for the first time in 1995. “With this contract we have achieved a real coup. We are very proud that we can now count Lee Cougan as one of our partners,” emphasizes Ploner.

The development of registrations for this year's Dolomiti Superbike, which has increased again in the past few weeks, is also encouraging. As usual, the organizers are offering three distances, which are 60 km (1570 m altitude), 85 km (2360 m) or 123 km (3400 m) long.
