In the end, the 30-year-old Frenchman Stephane Tempier triumphed in a total time of 1.40:41 and a lead of 1.06 minutes over the Italian Luca Braidot, who was five years younger. The German veteran Manuel Fumic ended up in third place, who was able to overtake local hero Gerhard Kerschbaumer in the very last kilometer. The race didn't start off well for Tempier. Right at the start, the Italian Mirko Tabacchi was able to break away from the field and gain a lead of around 20 seconds. Already on lap two, the race was over for one of the big favorites, Marco Aurelio Fontana, after a front wheel puncture. Tempier's chance came on lap three when he started the climb and caught Tabacchi. “I was able to make a small hole on this climb,” says Tempier, “and then I thought to myself: just give it my all and see what happens.” The result was initially a lead of around half a minute, which Tempier was able to increase from lap to lap and ultimately drive home largely unscathed. The preliminary decision for second place only came in the fifth of seven laps, when Luca Braidot was able to get rid of his pursuers. The battle for third place was even more exciting: on the last lap, the Colombian Jhonnatan Botero Villagas had to pay tribute to his high speed and let the Fumic/Kerschbaumer duo go. Ultimately, it was the 34-year-old German who made it to the podium; Gerhard Kerschbaumer had to settle for fourth place.

It was only on this that the Slovenian Tanja Zakelj, with the Swiss Katrin Leumann in tow, was able to catch up with the previously third-placed South Tyrolean Lisa Rabensteiner and Chiara Teocchi and pull away from her competitors in the very last kilometers. There were two Italian winners in the junior categories today. Edoardo Xillo won the men's competition and Martina Berta won the women's competition. Xillo was able to take advantage of the opportunity that a better starting position had offered him. “The ranking was ajourned, so I was able to start higher up and ride as I wanted,” said Xillo, who was particularly impressed by the tough climb in Nals.
