The 10th edition of HERO once again demanded everything from the around 4000 starters. Record winner Leonardo Paez was unbeatable over 86 kilometers and 4500 meters in altitude around the Sellastock. The 36-year-old celebrated his 6th victory at HERO. The Swiss Urs Huber came in second, 4 minutes behind Paez. At the Ortler Bike Marathon a week ago, Huber came out ahead of Paez. Diego Alfonso Arias Cuervo from Colombia completes the podium. The best South Tyrolean is Fabian Rabensteiner in 2th place; the Eisacktaler was around 7 minutes behind the winner at the finish.

Mazzorana triumphs over 86km For the first time in HERO history, the women's race was also held over the long distance this year. Sara Mazzorana from Terni celebrated an easy victory. The 23-year-old won by more than 10 minutes over Cornelia Hug (SUI) and Francesca Bertelli (ITA). South Tyrolean podium on a short route On the men's 60-kilometer route, Marco Rebagliati (ITA) came out on top after 3 hours and 21 minutes. Olanger's Klaus Fontana, who won the first HERO on the long course in 2010 and won the 60 in 2017, came second, more than 5 minutes behind Rebagliati. Fumagalli wins HERO title The women's 60-kilometer race is part of the UCI Marathon Series. In addition, the Hero title is awarded at this distance. That's why the best athletes compete in this category and not in the over 80km. The Italian champion Mara Fumagalli took victory here ahead of Sini Alusniemi from Finland and her compatriot Katazina Sosna, who drives for the Torpado-South Tyrol team. Last year, Fumagalli came third behind Sosna.
