Mountain bike world elite at the start in Val Gardena

The BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites is the MTB marathon with the most participants in the Alps and the toughest in the world. This is one of the reasons why dozens of top athletes are at the start again. These include the three-time and reigning world champion Alban Lakata (AUT), last year's winner and Italian marathon champion Juri Ragnoli, the Colombian four-time winner Leonardo Hector Paez and the newly crowned European champion Alexey Medvedev from Russia. The Swiss marathon specialist Urs Huber will be at the start, as will the former world champions Massimo Debertolis and Roel Paulissen. Top athletes such as Daniele Mensi, Luca Ronchi, Tony Longo, Cristian Cominelli, Simone Ferrero, Cristiano Salerno, Francesco Casagrande, Mattia Longa and Johnny Cattaneo come from Italy. The top favorites among the women are last year's winner Elena Gaddoni, the British double winner Sally Bigham, the Pole Michalina Ziolkowska and the South Tyrolean Agnes Tschurtschenthaler.

Two routes are available for top athletes and amateur riders to choose from. The long course measures 86 km and has an altitude difference of 4.500 meters; the short course is 60 km / 3.200 m above sea level. The participants have to overcome four passes around the Sella massif, the Sassolungo and the Alpe di Siusi: the Grödnerjoch, the Campolongo pass, the Pordoi and Mahlknechtjoch. The 60km route leads from the Fassa Valley over the Sella Pass back to the finish in Wolkenstein. The women start at 7:10 a.m., the men at 7.20:11.45 a.m. The first elite riders on the long distance are scheduled to arrive at 10.45 a.m., the winners on the short distance will cross the finish line around XNUMX a.m. BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites will be broadcast live on RAISport and Eurosport16 International in 10 countries worldwide on Saturday, June 12th between 2 a.m. and 67 p.m.

Around the race on Saturday, June 16th, the BMW HERO Bike Festival will take place, a four-day supporting program from June 14th to 17th for the heroes, their companions and fans. There are exploration tours on the racetracks with MTB guides, the HERO Charity Fashion Night for the benefit of Südtiroler Sporthilfe, the HERO Kids race followed by a party, the HERO Great Finale and a car-free cycling day on three Dolomite passes.

The BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites is once again part of the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series, the world cup of long-distance races, and the Alpine Cup, a racing series that includes the four toughest MTB marathons in the Alps with a total length of 450 kilometers and almost 20.000 meters of altitude. In 2015, HERO hosted the UCI Marathon World Championships.
