After the home World Cup on Sulzberg, the “Azzurri” set off for Switzerland, where the European Mountain Bike and Trial Championships are on the program from Thursday to Sunday. National coach Hubert Pallhuber nominated Eva Lechner, Gerhard Kerschbaumer, Marco Aurelio Fontana and Gioele Bertolini for the team competition.

The next day the Eliminator competitions begin, before Greta Weithaler from Naturns, who has been on the podium at every World Cup stage so far this season, will make her European Championship debut among the juniors on Saturday. On Sunday, however, the reigning relay world champion Beltain Schmid, Gerhard Kerschbaumer (both in the U23 race) and Eva Lechner will be pedaling.

Eva Lechner has won precious metals a total of ten times in continental competitions (three gold, three silver and four bronze). She collected her last medal last season in Moscow, where she was crowned European champion in the relay together with Michele Casagrande, Gioele Bertolini and Luca Braidot.

Gerhard Kerschbaumer now has six European Championship medals to his name (three gold, two silver and one bronze). At the European Championships in Dohnany in 2011, the Verdinger climbed onto the podium in the U23 individual race and in the relay. Last season, however, Kerschbaumer came away empty-handed.
