Top-class field of participants in the Dolomiti Superbike

Including the newly crowned Italian champion and winner of the last edition Samuele Porro, as well as the Colombian Leonardo Paez, winner of 2016 and 2006, when the Dolomiti Superbike was also part of the UCI Marathon World Cup. For Porro it was the second victory at the Italian Championships, the fourth overall. This means he will be starting the Dolomiti Superbike with the jersey of the Italian marathon champion for the second time in a row. Porro just won the silver medal at the UEC European Marathon MTB Championship held in Norway last weekend. He came second to the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira, who is also one of the favorites of the South Tyrolean Dolomiti Superbike.

“Things have already started well with the Italian Championship, now I want to build on my successes at the Dolomiti Superbike,” said Porro. “The Dolomiti Superbike is special. The main reasons for this would be the optimal organization and the wonderful route. I think everyone gets their money's worth here. There aren't too many technical sections or very difficult climbs, it's a nice race for everyone," said Porro, praising the Dolomit Super Bike. “Last year the first five mountain bikers crossed the finish line within just a few seconds. I think this year could be similar. The level of the top drivers is very strong, there are many who are fighting for victory, often little things decide on the triumph. The race could be decided on the bike path. There is a lot of room for tactics there,” said Porro.

His biggest rival for victory, the Colombian Leonardo Paez, said the following in advance: “It's a fast race, even with flat parts, you have to be patient until the last climb and see how strong the others are. I've already won the race twice, let's see what's possible this time. Of course I hope for a hat trick and will do everything for it. It's an advantage to have such a strong teammate like Diego Cuervo in the race, we will support each other."

With regard to the competition, Paez said: “Urs Huber is strong, as is Lakata, while Ragnoli is a tough opponent for the Italians, and of course Porro, he is the defending champion and therefore automatically favorite. But Thiago Ferreira and many others could also play a good role. As always, it will be fiercely competitive. You also have to be a little lucky not to get involved in falls.”

Two routes on the Dolomiti Superbike The mountain bikers compete on two routes in the South Tyrol Dolomiti Superbike. On the shorter route there are 60km and 1785hm to overcome (start at 8.45am), on the longer route 113km and 3357hm (7.30am).
