Although the starting signal for the first South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero with its novel and impressive concept was only given three years ago, the mountain bike endurance race in the Dolomites is already one of the real classics in the scene. Appropriate training is essential in order to feel like a true hero at the finish line. Nevertheless, the Hero is more than just a race: the combination of various features, all of which contribute to making the marathon around the Sellastock an innovative and unique sporting event. The South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero takes place on Saturday, June 22nd. The start and finish are in Selva di Val Gardena. All new products from the fourth edition were presented today at a press conference at the Haselburg in Bolzano.

UCI World Series The South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero is the last race before the 2013 Marathon World Championships, which will take place a week later in Kirchberg/Tirol. That's why it has special meaning this year, because it is both a test for the athletes and the last opportunity to qualify for the World Cup. Several world-class athletes have already registered for the race. For example, the reigning world champion Elias Periklis from Greece or the winners of the UCI Marathon World Series 2012, Steffen Thum from Germany and Sally Bigham from Great Britain. These top athletes will meet the winners of the first three editions at the Sellaronda Hero. These are Klaus Fontana (ITA/2010), Mirko Celestino (ITA/2011) and Leonardo Paez (KOL/2012).

New route Because the organizers of the South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero 2015 will host the UCI Marathon World Championships, they have already adapted the routes for the Marathon World Series in June to the requirements of the International Cycling Federation UCI. The "elite" men and licensed riders will cover 84 km and 4.300 meters of altitude, while the elite women have to cover 62 km and 3.300 meters of altitude. In Alta Badia and Arabba, variants were installed on the women's route to extend the route by around two kilometers. This change also benefits the safety of the participants, as the bikers no longer have to cross the center of Arabba. The two routes of 62 and 84 km are also open to participants in the “hobby” category, i.e. those cycling enthusiasts who do not have a license from the respective cycling association.

prize money The total prize money for the South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero is 50.000 euros. The winners of the elite categories for women and men will receive 3.000 euros.

A dense program The South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero racing week will open on Thursday, June 20th with the Hero Bike & Tech Expo on Nives Square in Wolkenstein. On Friday, participants can also test the signposted race tracks. In the evening, at 18 p.m., the screening of the documentary Heroes in Wolkenstein is on the program. The start of the South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero will take place on Saturday, June 22nd on the main street in Wolkenstein. The participants will start the race between 7.20:8.45 a.m. and 62:11.20 a.m. in six different starting blocks. The finish of the first lady (84km) is scheduled for around 12.20 a.m. at Nives-Platz. The fastest biker over 21 km is scheduled to arrive at around 9.30 p.m., while the official award ceremony will take place at 300 p.m. at the community square. Before the award ceremony, the well-known South Tyrolean group "Westbound" will hold a live concert there. Voluntary donations are collected for humanitarian aid projects in Africa. On Saturday, at XNUMX a.m., around XNUMX young bikers will compete against each other at the Hero Kids on the streets of Wolkenstein and emulate their role models.

Hero Charity This year the South Tyrol Sellaronda Hero is once again carrying out its awareness campaign in favor of the South Tyrolean Sports Aid. 100 “Hero for Heroes” starting numbers were provided, the proceeds of which will benefit the South Tyrolean Sports Aid, which supports young, talented South Tyrolean athletes.

The hero live on TV The marathon race will be broadcast live on the web. On Saturday, June 22nd, from 18 p.m. to 19 p.m., the live broadcast of "Il dopo Hero" from Wolkenstein will be broadcast on Raisport with race footage, winner interviews and comments from experts. Further film contributions are planned for the television channels Sky Italia and Eurosport.
