KronplatzKing attracts the world elite to the Pustertal

This year, the around 700 participants will once again be taking part in the race up to the 2275-meter-high Kronplatz summit. Mountain bikers can start either on the marathon route (74,5 kilometers and 3250 meters in altitude) or on the classic distance (49km and 2150 meters in altitude). The longer distance is 7 km shorter compared to last year.

The Classic route leads via Ciamaor, Rit and the Piz de Plaies back to St. Vigil, via Tamersc and then over the Furkelpass and the Geiselsberger Hut up to Kronplatz. The marathon route takes you via the Panorama Trail, the Ochsenalm and the Pischaweg back up via the Geiselsberger Hut to the Kronplatz summit. There are also 8 kilometers of freeride runs and 9 kilometers of single trails.

Ferreira reaches for the crown The big favorite to win is European champion Tiago Ferreira. The Portuguese is currently in Pustertal and will be taking part in KronplatzKing for the first time. He faces competition from, among others, Daniele Mensi, who won the race in 2017. Mattia Longa, Cristiano Salerno, the Russian Aleksey Medvedev and the German Markus Kaufmann also have ambitions to win. Stefano Valdrighi, who won the Dolomiti Superbike over the short distance last weekend, is also at the start. From a South Tyrolean perspective, the two Sarnerians, Michael Wohlgemuth and Franz Hofer, are particularly eligible for a top placement.

For the women, the favorites are Maria Cristina Nisi, who won the race in 2017, and last year's winner Esther Süss. The Swiss woman won the Ortler Bike Marathon for the third time in a row this year. Of the South Tyroleans, Elisabeth Steger from Ahrntal thinks she has a good chance.
