The state squad looks back on a successful season

The South Tyrolean mountain biker team is supervised by coach Andreas Laner. In addition to a few training camps, there were a few joint training sessions in Bolzano in the spring to prepare for the season. Otherwise, the athletes who compete in the U14 to U17 age groups train in their respective clubs. This season, the national squad made people sit up and take notice several times, especially in the Youth Italian Cup races.

Last weekend the Italian Cup ended in Barga, Tuscany. The South Tyrolean national team took overall victory after 4 stages, ahead of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. Anton Gruber Genetti (Sunshine Racers Nals) took second place in the U14 category, while Marie Aichner (SV St. Lorenzen) made it onto the podium in second place among the girls in this age group.

Sophie Auer the outstanding athlete Sophie Auer (SV St. Lorenzen) won the race in the U15 category. Auer had won all of the individual races this season. Only at the European Youth Championships at the end of August in the Aosta Valley did she narrowly miss victory in the individual cross-country race and took second place - and with it the silver medal, also a more than excellent result. Auer's outstanding European Championship performance was rounded off with relay silver.

With Sarah Lunger from SC Kardaun, another South Tyrolean athlete made it onto the podium in the U15 age group at the end of the season in Tuscany. Lunger took a strong 3rd place. Nils Laner from Gaiser won the U16 boys category. Jan Laner came in second in the U17 category. You represented South Tyrol excellently: the state squad at the Italian Cup final.

Although some athletes from the South Tyrolean state squad were missing from the final in Tuscany, Andreas Laner's protégés were able to secure overall victory thanks to these numerous podium places and many other top 10 placements in the last stage and thus caused a surprise.
