Mensi & Nisi: Kronplatz has a new royal couple

The big favorite of the day, the Belgian former world champion Roel Paulissen, who has lived in Antholz for many years, immediately moved to the front of the quite competitive starting field and, together with Daniele Mensi, was already in the lead after the first 10 km of just over a minute.

On the long climb over the south side to the transit at the Kronplatz summit, Daniele Mensi was able to separate himself from Paulissen and was the first to reach the highest point, around 2 minutes ahead of the Belgian favorite. Third at the interim a Kronplatz summit was Cristiano Salerno, 3 minutes behind the leader. From this point on, the contenders for the day's victory over the long distance still had a good 30 km and 1.300 m+ to go. On the Nordschleife around and back up to Kronplatz, Paulissen also had to give in to the strong Salerno, while Daniele Mensi never gave up the lead. After 4:05.20, 29-year-old Daniele Mensi was crowned the new Kronplatz king, second was Cristiano Salerno (+4.14) and third was last year's winner Roel Paulissen from Belgium (+4.27).

In the women's race, the newly crowned Italian champion Maria Cristina Nisi was able to confidently take the title of Kronplatz Queen after a single-handed race with a time of 5:08.59, after last year's winner Gaddoni had to withdraw at short notice due to illness. The Polish Michalina Ziolkowska came second (+19.12), and the always strong German Katrin Schwing came third (+40.36).

Zamboni and Steger the new prince couple Andrea Zamboni from Trentino was the first to cover the “short” distance of 50 km and 2.200 m+ with a time of 2:46.22, Reinhard Woisetschläger from Austria came second with + 7.28, third place for Daniel Kiebacher from Dobbiaco (hobby class) with + 10.58.

However, there was a South Tyrolean victory in the women's 50 km race with Elisabeth Steger from Ahrntal, who finished the race in 3:28.50 ahead of Luisa Semprebon (+21.01) and Patrizia D'Amato (+23.20).

Around 500 athletes from 16 nations took part in this year's second edition of the KronplatzKing MTB marathon, with the goal of Kronplatz summit in mind.

Daniele Mensi and Maria Cristina Nisi were the strongest of the entire field of participants at the second edition of the KronplatzKING MTB Marathon and were able to confidently outdo the competition.
