Young mountain bikers shine at state championships

For the 17th time, the VSS mountain bikers' graduation took place in the Puster community of Pichl/Gsies. Traditionally, the decisions in the Easy Down and Dual disciplines were on the program on Saturday, and the national champions in Cross Country were determined on Sunday. In the first race on Saturday, the Easy Down, there were exciting decisions and the children impressed with their skills. With a considerable lead, Marie Kirchler from the Amateur Bike Club Klausen made it to the finish line first in the Children 2 Female category. She only needed 1:54,26 minutes for the route and was 9,30 seconds faster than second-place finisher Mara Hintner from the organizing club SSV Pichl/Gsies with 2:30,56 minutes. Carolina Wolfsgruber from ASV Team Green Valley followed closely behind with 2:04,77 minutes. Close decisions in the dual slalom For the boys, however, things were a little tighter in the same age group: Simon Martinelli from the Bike Club Neumarkt secured first place with 1:45,77 minutes. Second-place finisher Samuel Prantl from the Sunshine Racers Nals made it to the finish line just 1,77 seconds later. Franz Engele from ASC Kardaun secured third place with 1:50,44 minutes. In the dual slalom, a few hundredths sometimes decided the medal positions. In the student category 3, in the end only 80 hundredths decided on the VSS/Raiffeisen national championship title. Isabel Kaser from the Bike Club Neumarkt made it to the finish in both runs ahead of her opponent Andrea Brugger from the Bike Team Gais ASV. It was also close in the other categories: in Student 3, Niclas Pallweber made it to the finish ahead of his teammates from the Sunshine Racers Nals in just 9,99 seconds. Four mountain bikers provided superlatives On Sunday, the cross country competition was the highlight of the day's program. Depending on the age group, different route lengths were on the program. Fabian Höllrigl from ASV Kortsch Raiffeisen performed particularly well, winning the race in the student 2 category with a lead of 1:35,7 minutes. Sophie Messmer from the KSV For Fun Cycling Team was also able to secure victory in the student category 1 with a lead of 1:02 minutes. A total of four young mountain bikers were able to secure the national championship title in all three categories in Pichl/Gsies: Marie Kirchler (Amateur Bike Club Klausen), Theresa Gasser (ASV St. Lorenzen), Sinner Anna (Sunshine Racers Nals) and Isabel Kaser (Bike Club).
