World Cup in Nove Mesto: Seiwald strong again

Jolanda Neff won the Short Track in Nove Mesto and is on top of the podium for the first time this season. After a thrilling finish sprint, World Cup leaders Rebecca McConnell (Australia) and Jenny Rissveds (Sweden) completed the podium. For the Olympic champion from Eastern Switzerland, it is the 13th World Cup victory and the third victory over the short distance after two successes in 2019.

The two South Tyroleans are also strong. Greta Seiwald is currently in impressive form; starting from position 26, she fought her way up to 15th place. Eva Lechner ended up in 24th place.

Luca Schwarzbauer caused a huge surprise for the men. The German had undergone medical treatment during the week for an inflamed muscle in his abdominal area, but had no signs of it at the start of the World Cup weekend. He increased the pace on the last climb of the 11th lap and took his first World Cup victory by two seconds.

Olympic champion Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) came second, just ahead of the Swiss Filippo Colombo. In an extremely tight short track race, second place and 28th place were only separated by eleven seconds. Contractor Gerhard Kerschbaumer ended up in 34th place in the short distance, which was unpopular for him.
