MTB World Cup: South Tyroleans come away empty-handed on the Sulzberg

The 31-year-old Swiss Nino Schurter ended the 2017 World Cup season in Val di Sole with an impeccable record. The Rio 2016 Olympic champion won the sixth cross-country race of the year in Trentino for the sixth time. In the penultimate stage in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, he was able to secure the overall World Cup victory early on. Second place went to the Frenchman Stephane Tempier (+4 seconds), who only admitted defeat after an attack from Schurter in the final lap. Julien Absalon from France came third (+47). The contracting agent Gerhard Kerschbaumer, the last in Canada came third together with Schurter and Tempier on the podium was allowed to, had to settle for 40th place on the Sulzberg after a broken chain. The 26-year-old crossed the finish line 4.58 minutes behind.

Swiss victory also among the women

Two weeks before the World Championships in Cairns, Australia, the Swiss Jolanda Neff (1:26.58 hours) prevailed in the final race of this year's Cross-Country World Cup with a lead of 21 seconds over the Ukrainian Jana Belomoina. The Polish Maja Wloszczowska came third (+1.09 minutes). The 24-year-old from St. Gallen and the second-placed Ukrainian, who had already been declared the overall women's World Cup winner before the race in Trentino, had already managed to break away from the field in the second of six laps. Eva Lechner, who was difficult this year from a sporting point of view Sulzberg took 32nd place (+9.37). 24-year-old Lisa Rabensteiner (Villanders) finished the race in 47th place (+13.53). Anna Oberparleiter from Olanger finished in 53rd place, while Julia Tanner from Neumarkt crossed the finish line in 63rd place.

Greta Seiwald from Casies took part in the women's U23 race. Unfortunately, she fell and was therefore unable to finish the race.

MTB World Cup: South Tyroleans come away empty-handed on the Sulzberg

The final of the Cross-Country World Cup took place on Sunday in Commezzadura near Malè. The competitions on Sulzberg were the last highlight for South Tyrol's bike aces before the World Championships in Cairns (Australia), which takes place in September.
