MTB World Championship: Oberparleiter gambles away in the Eliminator race

Anna Oberparleiter made it to the semi-finals at the MTB World Championships in Andorra on Tuesday afternoon. However, the 24-year-old had to admit defeat to the competition there. Before the final climb, the Olanger woman, who had achieved the fastest time in the qualification, chose the outside line, but then lost out in a duel with the two competitors in front of her. At the end of the climb she lacked the necessary momentum to have a say in the finish sprint. She came third in her semifinal run and was eliminated early.

In the “small final” Oberparleiter finally came second behind the Dutchwoman Anne Terpstra and ended up sixth in the class. Her teammate Chiara Teocchi came seventh. Linda Indergand from Switzerland was crowned the new world champion, leaving the Norwegian Ingrid Boe Jacobsen and Kathrin Stirnemann (also Switzerland) behind her.

Greta Seiwald, who achieved 12th time in the qualification, said goodbye in the first knockout run. Although the biker from Pichl/Gsies was in second place for a long time in the quarter-finals and even took the lead on the last climb, she had to give way to two opponents on the home straight.

Nals winner Daniel Federspiel is the new world champion for men

Maximilian Vieider from Bolzano achieved 23rd time in the qualification, but had no chance in the round of XNUMX and was eliminated. Daniel Federspiel (Austria) won the title here. He should be well known to all South Tyrolean MTB fans because of his victory in the Eliminator race as part of the Marlene Sunshine Race in April this year. Silver went to Samuel Gaze from New Zealand, bronze to the German Simon Gegenheimer.

Curious: Due to a power failure, the race had to be interrupted for more than an hour after Anna Oberparleiter's quarter-final run. After the damage was repaired, we could continue. The World Cup in Andorra continues on Wednesday with the team relay. Eva Lechner from Eppan will also be taking part in this race.
