Rabensteiner and Tschurtschenthaler win 60km races

Fabian Rabensteiner defeated his teammate and 2008 World Cup eighth, Johnny Cattaneo, in the finish sprint. The 25-year-old from Villandro covered the distance in 2:16.40 hours, 1,4 seconds faster than his “mentor”. Rocchetti, however, crossed the finish line 4.18 minutes behind the winner. “The pace was very high right from the start,” says Fabian Rabensteiner, who won the Vuelta Ibiza, a three-day stage race for teams of two, together with Cattaneo in March. "On the descent to Toblach I was informed that Cattaneo was not far away, which is why I increased the pace." Cattaneo had conquered the first climb together with the leaders over the long distance. Rabensteiner then increased the pace on the descent and caught up with Cattaneo shortly after Dobbiaco. “I took Fabian under my wing,” says Cattaneo. "He's much younger and I'm happy to help him," said the marathon specialist from the province of Bergamo. "The Italian Cross Country Championships will take place next week and Rabensteiner should come there well prepared and start with full motivation." Rocchetti had conquered the first climb together with Rabensteiner, but had to let the South Tyrolean go on the descent and complete the rest of the race alone.

South Tyrolean victory also for women In the women's class, track and field star Agnes Tschurtschenthaler, who started as a hobby rider, completed the course in 2:38.10 hours. She won with a lead of 8.07 minutes over the Ukrainian Krystyna Konvisarova, who lives in Italy, and 21.31 minutes over the third-placed South Tyrolean Ulrike Nischler. The 33-year-old, who had been in second position for a long time, was able to catch up with Konvisarova, who had been leading up to that point, in Schluderbach. "On the climb to Plätzwiese I noticed that I had more strength than the Ukrainian, who is quite happy with her second place: "The conditions were optimal because it wasn't too hot, the course was dry and the race was fast. I only had difficulties on the first climb because it took me some time to get going," said the 26-year-old. When asked about the difference between cycling and running, winner Tschurtschenthaler said: "When running you have to do it straight away "You have to set a high rhythm, but when you're cycling you can relax every now and then."
