Seewald and Sosna win Hero Dolomites 2021

The BMW HERO South Tyrol Dolomites 2021 took place in Selva di Val Gardena on Saturday. With its iconic routes, the race is considered the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world and is therefore also part of the renowned UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series 2021.

In the elite men's category, the German Andreas Seewald from the Canyon Northwave MTB Team won, completing the 86-kilometer route over the Gardena Pass, the Campolongo Pass, the Pordoi Pass and the Duron Pass in 4:26.57 and climbing 4.500 meters in altitude. Samuele Porro from Team Trek Pirelli came second, 2'13 behind, followed by Leonardo Paez from Team Giant Polimedical in third place.

Seewald said after the race: “I started quickly, hoping to be at the front alone. During the course of the race, the lead changed several times: On the descent on the Campolongo I had to stop because of a tire defect and was promptly overtaken by Leonardo Paez. I returned the favor at the Duron Pass when he had the same problems.” Katazina Sosna prevails among the women The riders in the elite category competed against each other on the 60 kilometer long route, on which 3.200 meters of altitude had to be overcome, because the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites is a stage in the international calendar of the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series. The emotionally charged race culminated with the victory of Katazina Sosna from the Torpado-Südtirol International MT team, who was in the lead from the start, crossed the finish line first and thus leads the 2021 rankings with a time of 3:50.45. Second place goes to Ariane Lüthi from Team Salusmed, who crossed the finish line with a race time of 3:54.54, while Angelika Tazreiter from KTM Factory MTB Team came third in 4:02.0. Sandra Mairhofer from the Pedale Leynicese team was the first Italian to reach the finish and came fourth, more than 4 minutes behind. Worldwide interest in the event After months of standstill, the 2021 edition should symbolize a new start: “For us, a challenge within a challenge. We have had very stressful months behind us, in many respects. But seeing the race participants at the starting line this morning was simply the greatest thing for us,” said Gerhard Vanzi. “From the beginning, we wanted this edition to be one to remember – a symbol of a new beginning and a sign that conveys strength and a lot of positivity.”

This year's edition of this great sports and mountain bike festival took the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites far beyond the country's borders and into the world: The race was not only broadcast live from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. on the official HERO channels, but was also in a total of 53 countries on all five continents can be seen on TV.
