Relay bronze! Eva Lechner wins her next World Cup medal

One thing in advance: the third medal decision in the Pyrenees was not for the faint of heart! Marco Aurelio Fontana, the hopeful in the Italian team, set the pace from the start and handed over to Francesco Bonetto in second place, immediately behind the top Swiss favorite. The junior driver held his own at the front of the field.

Lechner bites his teeth

Only the relay team from France was ahead of the Azzurri when Eva Lechner took off in third place. However, the experienced woman from Eppan repeatedly had to struggle with great difficulties. But she gritted her teeth and handed over to U15 rider Gioele Bertolini after a part time of 18:23 minutes. At this point, Italy was in fourth place.

From then on, a thrilling fight for the bronze medal developed. Only the French and Danes were ahead of the field. Slovakia initially positioned itself behind them before Janka Keseg Stefkova lost ground, paving the way for Bertolini to third place. The Italian kept the Swiss Lars Forster at bay and finally secured Italy's hoped-for first medal in Vallnord.

Eva Lechner can therefore claim complete success in her first appearance at the intercontinental title fights in Andorra. The exceptional South Tyrolean athlete now has two gold, three silver and four bronze medals to her name at mountain bike world championships. She also won a junior title. On Saturday she has another chance for precious metal when the women's elite race is on the program.
