South Tyrol Cup: Local young bikers extremely strong

150 mountain bikers from all age groups competed in Steinegg last weekend. The fourth and final stage of the Tri Veneto Cup was also on the program for the young bikers (U14 to U17). This cross-country racing series brings together the regional associations of South Tyrol, Trentino, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia and was designed exclusively for the junior categories. In the association rankings, South Tyrol took overall victory with 834 points, ahead of Veneto (732), Trentino (711) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (656).

In the total of 8 rankings, the South Tyroleans took home 6 overall victories: Matthias Ilmer (Naturns) won the U14 overall ranking. Nils Laner (Gais) triumphed in the U15 category, while Jan Laner was pleased with the overall victory in the U16 category. Among the girls, Sophie Auer (U14), Noemi Plankensteiner (U15) and Julia Maria Graf (U17) were unbeatable.

During the penultimate stage of the South Tyrol Cup, 29-year-old Johannes Schweiggl from Kurtatsch was unbeatable. After 8 laps, Schweiggl relegated Franz Oberrauch from the Nalser Sunshine Racers (+3.10 minutes) and Andrea Dori from Team Zanolini (+3.32) to second and third place among the elite men.

No athlete started in the elite women's category and the race had to be canceled in this category. Junior Nadine Ellecosta from ASV St. Lorenzen was the fastest of the day with a time of 56:01 minutes after 3 laps. Anna Künig from Kardaun came in second (+2). Merano’s Linda Filehner came third (+6.22).

Next Sunday the overall winners of the South Tyrol Cup will be chosen at the finale in the Pichl sports zone in Pichl/Gsies.
