From the bistro to the downhill track

“I wanted to go back to South Tyrol, also because of cycling. The training options are simply better here. And with the restaurant there was a great opportunity,” emphasizes Johannes von Klebelsberg. About two weeks ago he opened the “Vicino Bike & Bistro” on Perathoner Street in Bolzano.

Von Klebelsberg, who worked as managing director in his brother Valentin's restaurant in Munich for around a year and a half, fulfilled a dream, so to speak, with his own restaurant in Bolzano - and is making people sit up and take notice with a special concept. Meeting point for cyclists “Cycling and restaurants are combined,” explains the 25-year-old. Next to the bistro with some meals and a rich lunch menu there is a small bike workshop. Von Klebelsberg wants to establish an “immediate service” here. The plan: Cyclists can repair their bikes here and have something to drink or eat in the meantime.

In any case, as soon as the Corona situation calms down a bit, the restaurant will also become a meeting place for the cycling scene. “World Cup broadcasts and lectures with top-class cyclists are planned,” said von Klebelsberg. Broken hip For him, this season, which was already scaled down due to the coronavirus crisis, has ended. Two months ago he broke his hip in a fall during training. At the Mountain Bike World Championships in Leogang (October 2th to 7th) he will support his GT Factory Racing team as a spectator in the downhill competitions. After von Klebelsberg started a season without a team, he was signed by the English team at the beginning of the year.

He’s even more excited about next season. He wants to improve on his best World Cup result to date, 13th place in the 2019 race in Commezzadura in Val di Sole. “And maybe have a say in the top 10,” said the native of Bolzano. Visitors to his bistro can already look forward to one or two exciting stories from the downhill world.
