Although the Dolomiti Superbike is inexorably heading towards its 30th birthday, the organizers of the legendary South Tyrolean MTB marathon are always trying to come up with something new. This year, as part of the 27th edition, is no different. This year, in addition to the two established race distances (60 and 123 kilometers), the participants were also able to choose a new, third route. This is 85 kilometers long, has an altitude difference of 2360 meters and is intended to appeal to those bikers for whom the “classic” distance is now too short, but at the same time do not (yet) dare to tackle the long distance. This third route resulted in additional organizational effort in the run-up to the South Tyrol Dolomiti Superbike. But the dedicated team around OC boss Kurt Ploner carried out these tasks confidently as usual. “The preparation phase is complete. We are ready and are already looking forward to the first exhibitors who will be exhibiting their products at the traditional expo from Thursday and then logically to the many bikers, their families and many onlookers. Numerous participants have been coming to Niederdorf for years; we are now like a big family. As far as the weather is concerned, we seem to be lucky this year too. According to the forecast, it will be very sunny,” says Ploner. A top-class field of participants Almost 2500 bikers from 36 different nations registered for the Dolomiti Superbike on Saturday. Among the participants who registered “last minute” are former ski ace Manfred Mölgg and professional cyclist Diego Rosa (Arkea Samsic Team). The top-class field of the 27th Dolomiti Superbike is led by the Olympic champions Jaroslav Kulhavy (Czech Republic/2016) and Miguel Martinez (France/2000), who will be joined by the former winners Leonardo Paez (Colombia), Tiago Ferreira (Portugal), Urs Huber ( Switzerland), Alban Lakata (Austria), Martin Stosek (Czech Republic) and Massimo Debertolis (Italy), as well as European champion Fabian Rabensteiner from Villandro will face strong competition. Andreas Seewald from Germany, who really hit the marathon scene in 2021, is also to be reckoned with. First he became European champion on Elba, then he became world champion in Capoliveri. The OK team in the Dolomite region of 3 Zinnen also welcomes the “Azzurro” Nicola Taffarel, last year’s winner on the 60 km distance, as well as the “perennial favorite” Klaus Fontana from Olang. Katazina Sosna is the hunted among women In the women's race, all eyes are on Katazina Sosna, winner in 2017 and European marathon champion in 2019. One of the Lithuanian's biggest opponents is likely to be Chiara Burato. The “Azzurra” won the short distance of the Dolomiti Superbike in 2019 and will most likely compete over 123 km this year. We can also look forward to the appearance of last year's seventh-placed Sandra Dohrn from Germany, who will be sixth at the Marathon World Championships in 2020. Fans can cheer on the participants along the route, but also get their money's worth at the finish in Niederdorf. The winners of the short distance will arrive there from 9.45 a.m., a little later of the medium route and probably those of the long distance from 12.10 p.m. Emil Oberegger from Olang and the former South Tyrolean regional councilor Thomas Widmann will probably also be among the finishers. The two bikers have taken part in all 26 editions of the Dolomiti Superbike to date - and have always reached the finish line over the long distance. The Dolomiti Superbike is a sporting event for the whole family. This year, the MTB classic will be completed by the Junior Trophy on Sunday, July 10th.
