Philipp Schäddel wins the opening stage of the Dolomites Tour

Philipp Schäddel from Team Alpecin confirmed on Sunday during the first stage on Brixen's local mountain that he wanted to have a say in the awarding of the overall victory. The 34-year-old from Ettlingen, who is considered one of the contenders for victory in the Ötztal cycling marathon at the end of August, covered the timed section of 15 kilometers with 1.076 meters of altitude in 39.13 minutes and relegated the Colombian Gabriel Corredor to second place with a lead of 21 seconds Place. Corredor won the Dolomites cycling tour three years ago and would like to repeat his triumph from 2014 this year. Patrik Sinkewitz, also from Germany, completed the podium with a time of exactly 40 minutes.

The best South Tyrolean on Sunday at the start of the week-long cycling event was Edi Rizzi from the sports team. The 46-year-old from Sarner recorded a time of 41.58 minutes. He was only eight seconds slower than the German Jörg Ludewig, a former participant in the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia and now active for the Alpecin team.

Cortes sets the tone for the women In the women's race, the day's victory went to Colombia's Camila Cortes. The South American, who works for the Ristorante Trento team, completed the climb to the Plose in 47.34 minutes. Her compatriot Liliana Sanchez took second place with a time of 50.16 minutes, just ahead of the German Judith Bauer (Lexxi Smartsuits/50.33). Ruth Zemmer from ASV Rodes Gherdeina made it to sixth place as the best local cyclist. Like her competitors, she broke the one-hour mark with a time of 54.40 minutes.

A total of 469 cyclists were active on Sunday. In fact, more than 600 pedal riders have already registered for the Dolomites Tour, in which only three stages or individual sections can be completed.

A total of 145 kilometers with an altitude difference of 1560 meters takes you from Bolzano via Lavis and the Cembra Valley to the Aldeiner Bridge. The timed section begins there up to Maria Weißenstein (12 km/562 meters in altitude), before heading back to Bozen via the Eggental.

Philipp Schäddel wins the opening stage of the Dolomites Tour

The 41st edition of the Dolomites cycle tour began on Sunday with the first section from Bolzano to the Plose and back to the valley town. The time was measured on the approximately 15 kilometer long section with an altitude of 1076 meters between St. Andrä and the Plose.
