PRO Ötztaler 5500 with Spilak, Kreuziger, Cunego

Tomorrow, Friday, two professionals are among the absolute favorites: Simon Spilak (Katusha Alpecin) and Roman Kreuziger (Orica-Scott), both of whom won the Tour de Suisse no less than three times. The Slovenian Spilak triumphed in Switzerland this year and in 2015 and 2010 he secured overall victory in the difficult Tour de Romandie. A year earlier, the Czech Roman Kreuziger also won there and also finished the 2013 Tour de France in a strong fifth place overall.

The Czech Jan Hirt, the Upper Austrian Riccardo Zoidl and the Swiss Michael Albasini, all of whom have already won the Tour of Austria, are also likely to be at the forefront. The Austrian national champion Gregor Mühlberger enters the race as leader. Damiano Cunego, who won the Giro d'Italia in 2004, is also there. The mountain specialist Alexander Foliforow, who won the Giro stage up to the Alpe di Siusi last year, should also be a force to be reckoned with.

A secret favorite could be a mountain biker The two-time world champion Alban Lakata, who, alongside Daniel Federspiel, is at the top of the formed Austrian national team, is contesting his first professional race and the demanding route suits him perfectly - even if he certainly lacks tactical finesse on the road bike.

The Jaufenpass and the Timmelsjoch are ahead

The professional cyclists will cycle on South Tyrolean soil, among other places. After starting in Sölden, they will reach the Brenner Pass at around 15.30:15.45 p.m. and pass Vipiteno at 16.35:16.50 p.m. At around 18.15 p.m. the leading group will go over the Jaufenpass, around 18.45 p.m. through the Passeiertal valley past St. Leonhard and at around 6 p.m. over the Timmelsjoch. From 2 p.m. the top cyclists will reach the finish in Sölden after more than XNUMX hours. The race will be broadcast on Eurosport XNUMX and ORF Sport Plus.

On Sunday, August 27th, around 4000 amateur cyclists will take part in the 37th Ötztal Cycling Marathon on the same route.
