Quinziato and the Giro 2016: “A stage win would be the maximum”

Of all things, the Giro d'Italia is the tour of the country that Quinziato has competed in the least. He has competed in the Tour nine times, the Vuelta five times and is now tackling his fourth Giro. The veteran from Bolzano is ready for this highlight: "I completed a two-week high-altitude training camp in Senales Valley. I prepared for this strenuous stage race on South Tyrol's roads. I'm really looking forward to the four days here in front of my home crowd."

The Giro entourage will arrive in Corvara on May 21st. A day later, the mountain time trial from Castelrotto to the Alpe di Siusi is on the program before, after a rest day, we drive from Brixen to Andalo. “In these stages the decision could be made about the overall victory.”

"There are opportunities to attack" Manuel Quinziato doesn't mince his words. He wants to win a stage at this year's Giro, ideally of course the 16th, which runs through his hometown of Bolzano. "At the beginning of the tour I will certainly feel a bit tired from the recent one-day classics. The BMC team is starting without a real leader. That will be a bit unusual for me too. So I have the freedom to attack myself and, if possible, to kill to fight for a stage win."

“Cycling must not be tarnished any further” Quinziato and his teammates will soon set off for Holland, where the tour will start on Friday. However, immediately before the big event begins, negative headlines are once again causing a stir. This time they brought the riders Danilo Di Luca and Graziano Gasparre into circulation themselves. In the television program "Le Iene" they accused almost all participants in the major tours of doping. "I don't actually want to talk about this topic. But in this case there are a few things that need to be corrected," said a noticeably annoyed Quinziato. "Cycling has made incredible progress in the last few years. The statements of two losers, like Gasparre and Di Luca are damaging the clean sport. One may have been a great talent in the past, but never achieved anything, the other cheated his entire career. They are now looking for the public to put themselves in the spotlight. That's why they're leaving "The drivers' association is taking legal action against them. We have no use for people like that and these outdated discourses."

Next Friday the starting signal for the 99th Giro d'Italia will take place in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Before reaching the finish in Turin on May 29th, the tour will also spend four days in South Tyrol, the home of BMC professional Manuel Quinziato.
