Cycling cross: Eva Lechner is back

Last Sunday, Eva Lechner competed in her fourth cycle cross World Cup race this season. In Koksijde in Belgium, the Eppan woman came in eleventh, just over two minutes behind the Dutch winner Maud Kaptheijns.

Eva Lechner is under contract with the US team Clif-Luna and she achieved a top 10 result right at the start of the cross season: At the “Individual Jingle Cross” in Iowa City in mid-September, the 32-year-old came tenth with 1:20 Minutes behind the winner Katerina Nash from the Czech Republic. Second and third places went to Kaitlin Keough from the USA and the Belgian Sanne Cant.

Eva Lechner was unable to win the second World Cup race in Waterloo (USA) due to illness, and the following recovery break was more than necessary.

At the subsequent “home race” in Cles am Nonsberg, Eva Lechner was able to win the cross-country race for the “Nuovi Investimenti” trophy. In the Italian champion's jersey, she lived up to her name and left the young Sara Casasola and Alessia Bulleri behind her. Francesca Baroni and Anna Oberparleiter from Olanger followed at a distance.

Eva Lechner is a fixture in the cycling cross scene, with a total of three World Cup victories. This year was difficult for the South Tyrolean, at least on the mountain bike it was probably the hardest season ever. After the Olympic year in Rio there was a hole, especially psychologically. After consistently being at the top of the world for all these years, Eva Lechner had to start over. Recharge your batteries, develop new training methods and change a few things. On the way back, successes can help, and Eva Lechner has such successes in cycle cross.

The international cycle cross season has begun. Completely successful for Eva Lechner from Eppan. With a top 10 place in the USA, a win in Trent and 11th place in Belgium.
