Canyon team wins World Cup gold at the start - Vigilia with Valcar 8.

On Sunday morning it was all about medals for the first time at the 2018 UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Innsbruck. For the last time for the time being, a team time trial by the professional teams took place as part of the title fights. The time trial for professional teams, which was held for the first time at a road cycling world championship in 2012, will no longer be part of the World Cup program after this year.

The German Canyon//Sram Racing Team took victory after 54 kilometers in 1:01.46,60 hours. The Dutch Boels Dolmans Cycling Team finished 21,90 seconds behind in second place. Bronze went to the Dutch Sunweb Team (+2 seconds).

Alena Amialiusik, Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Elena Cecchini, Lisa Klein and Trixi Worrack competed for the victorious Canyon team.

Valcar team with Vigilia 8. The Valcar PBM team from Italy, for which Alessia Vigilia from Bolzano competed among others, had to be content with 8th place. Vigilia competed in the race together with her teammates Elisa Balsamo, Marta Cavalli, Maria Giulia Confalonieri, Chiara Consonni and Ilaria Sanguineti. For the 19-year-old from Bolzano, who is starting in the elite class for the first time this year and made the jump to the Valcar professional team at the start of the season, it was her first participation in an elite World Championships.

However, Vigilia is not taking part in the individual races and there was no nomination for the Italian national team this year. Last year, Vigilia took silver in the time trial at the Junior World Championships behind Elena Pirrone. Pirrone will be competing for the “Azzurre” in the time trial on Tuesday, and the 19-year-old from Steinmannwald will be competing in the road race on Saturday. Pirrone did not take part in the team time trial because Astana did not have a women's team.

Six riders per team started the time trial, and the time of the fourth rider was counted. A total of 4 teams took part. The men's team time trial is scheduled for the afternoon from 12:14.40 p.m.
