The coronavirus is raging at the Giro

The team of the already eliminated road cycling world champion Remco Evenepoel has to cope with further failures at the Giro d'Italia.

On Wednesday morning, Soudal-QuickStep announced that Jan Hirt, Josef Cerny, Louis Vervaeke and Mattia Cattaneo had tested positive for the coronavirus and were leaving the race. From Team AG2R, the Italian Andrea Vendrame had to give up with Covid-19. A total of 14 riders have already left the Giro due to Covid illnesses.

On Sunday evening, Evenepoel tested positive after his victory in the individual time trial. The day before, Italy's two-time time trial world champion Filippo Ganna had already been hit. The racing organization RCS then reintroduced the mask requirement on Monday.
