The Tour de France is on the brink

Macron further stated that “events with large audiences could not be held until mid-July at the earliest.” This would also affect the 107th edition of the world's most important cycling race, whose organizers recently expressly ruled out a possible ghost tour. The Tour of France “will not take place behind closed doors,” emphasized tour boss Christian Prudhomme. Moved further back? Recently there were reports in various media about a possible postponement of the tour to a later date in the year. The daily newspaper Le Parisien named the end of July as a potential start date. Germany's hopeful Emanuel Buchmann also recently speculated in the SID conversation that the situation would probably look better again if the tour could be postponed "by a month or a month and a half": "At the moment I still think that it will take place, I am still optimistic.” Extremely important from a sporting and financial perspective For the World Tour teams, the tour is extremely important not only in terms of sport but also financially. The corona pandemic has already forced several teams to make massive savings. The CCC team, among others, significantly reduced the salaries of its drivers until the end of the season and temporarily terminated the contracts with the majority of employees. The possible start of the Formula 1 season also falls within the period mentioned by Macron, which is scheduled to take place on June 28th in Le Castellet after the cancellations and postponements of the first nine races originally scheduled. Formula 1 boss Chase Carey recently admitted that he was “seriously” considering ghost racing.
