Dolomites cycling tour: home victory in the team time trial

On Saturday morning, the field of participants set off from Waltherplatz in Bolzano on their way to the Eppan Golf Club, where the final team time trial started. After an introductory lap in which the drivers were able to examine the route, the 60-kilometer battle against the clock began for the almost 19 teams.

The final time trial was won by the “Athlete 1” team. The team’s drivers – Manuel Giacomelli, Giordano Casagrande, Davide Ferrari, Luca Marconi and Eduard Rizzi – covered the circuit in 23.42,30:6,57 minutes, just ahead of “Team Young & Old”. Thomas Gschnitzer, Oliver Reeves, Alois Vigl and Daan Vermeulen finished second, 23.51,76 seconds behind the winning team. The podium was completed by “Team Norway” consisting of Kevin Skofteby, Fredrik Mentzoni, Vebjørn Rønning and Erik Saeter. The four Norwegians crossed the finish line after XNUMX:XNUMX minutes.

In the mixed category, “RSV Werner Otto” was unbeatable with a time of 25.24,14:26.17,94 minutes. The cast of Christian Resch, Andreas Kofler, Sabine Dittmann and Martin Lipinski clearly won ahead of the “Team Alè Deutschland” (2) and the team “Sportler 26.31,53” (XNUMX).

In the women's field there was a victory for the “Power Girls” in a real thriller of one hundredths. The quartet Brigitte Ausserhofer, Ursula Thaler, Sarah Bader and Barbara Zambotti left the “Wheel Divas” just behind (28.52,18:28.53,85) in XNUMX:XNUMX minutes. Third place went to the “Proseco Pedale” team – they were more than two and a half minutes behind at the finish.

“The Giro is a showcase for all of South Tyrol” OC boss Simon Kofler was satisfied after the last stage of the 42nd Giro delle Dolomiti. “The tour was also a great success this year. Compared to last year, the race became even more international and I think that there was something for each of the around 700 participants on the six stages. I see the Giro as a great opportunity, as a kind of showcase for the whole of South Tyrol.”
