The slightly different doping confession

Earlier this year, Olivia Ray was kicked out of her Human Powered Health team and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) was involved in the eviction. However, there was no official statement. Now Ray took part in a two-hour interview New Zealand Herald about doping and relationship difficulties. The 24-year-old New Zealander recently celebrated some successes in her young career. Last year she won 19 races in the US collegiate series and another seven elite races in New Zealand, for which she received a professional contract from the US team Human Powered Health and was crowned New Zealand champion in February. Now the expulsion and the four-year doping ban became known. However, the background is anything but simple. Ray, who has never tested positive for an illegal substance, has now admitted to taking Anavar and Clenbuterol for a month last November. “I took advantage of the offseason, I didn't want to cheat anyone or gain an advantage. By the time the races arrived, the substances were no longer in my body,” explained Ray. Relationship crisis and stalking allegations After her success at the championships, she received an email from her team's lawyer containing a screenshot of a text message from Ray to her then-boyfriend Jackson Huntley Nash, also a former cyclist. The message was about the side effects of doping abuse. This was followed by a notification about the termination of her contract with allegations of doping and making false statements to the police and in court. According to Ray, her short-term partner Nash got her into doping during their difficult relationship and it got out of control. Nash appeared in a US court in January, where he filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend Madeline Pearce, herself a cyclist, for stalking. The dropped lawsuit presented numerous photos of prohibited substances in Nash's possession. This, as well as the messages between Ray and Nash, led to the investigation against Ray. “I don't deny that I resorted to the means, no, I'm open about it. “I didn’t take it of my own choice, but I wasn’t forced to do it by Nash either,” she says, describing the process. Now it will be blocked retroactively for four years.
